(In)tolerant Islam

Dinsdag 20 november, 20h00 • Aula Minderbroedersberg 4-6 • Free entrance • Prof. M. Berger, Professor of Islam in the West, Leiden University

Even if we disregard the blatant intolerance of Muslim radicals, what to think of the role of Islam in the newly developing democracies in the Arab world? In this lecture we will compare the concepts of tolerance in the Muslim-Arab and Christian-European civilizations, and look at how this worked out in practice.

We will discuss the views of Islam on democracy, women and non-Muslims, and will pay special attention to the situation of Islam in the West, and Islam in the Arab Spring.

After the lecture: debate organized by student representation party NovUM.

Interested in sharing your opinion and thoughts after the lecture ? Join us and take part in the post-debate to discuss the role of the islam in the modern world.

Moderator: Johannes Federkeil
